2025 Philadelphia Flower Show
Each year, the annual Philadelphia Flower Show brings thousands of eager visitors the Pennsylvania Convention Center to get an early taste of spring. The show’s theme this year was Gardens of Tomorrow and did not disappoint.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) puts on the show, and I look forward to shooting the Flower Show for them each year. [This was the seventh year I’ve filmed it, and each year provides a sneak peek at spring.] Even though it’s technically still winter, the Convention Center comes alive with flowers, trees, and stunning designs and exhibits.
The Philadelphia Flower Show is the longest running horticultural event of its kind in the country. The first one was in 1829, and they’ve been going strong each year since. It’s the largest fundraiser for PHS, and allows the non-profit to continually provide horticultural education and resources to the Philadelphia area. PHS plants trees, hosts classes and workshops, has same day work and pay programs, and generally makes Philly a greener city.
Filming the Flower Show can be a bit of a challenge, because I always want to capture the essence of the show while showing off the dazzling exhibits. The show, however, is very popular which means that it is always packed with people. Some days, filming starts at the crack of dawn to avoid flying a drone over crowds. It also takes a bit of strategic planning to get those great shots while not interfering with anyone’s experience.
If you missed the show this year, check out this year’s video to see what the Gardens of Tomorrow looked like. If you went to the show, you can re-live some of the beauty as you wait to hear the theme for next year’s show. Many thanks to PHS for having me along and to Pat Rapa for his production assistance.
This video focuses more on the activities people can participate in during a visit to the Flower Show.
