Friends Select School Invites Students to Craft Video
As a freelance videographer, one of the perks of my job is the variety of different clients I have. I may be filming theatre one day, the Flower Show the next, or working with talented young students at a local school.
Friends Select School (FSS) is one of my clients, and I’ve been working with them to create acceptance videos. FSS is a Quaker school where students seeking admission must apply. When they receive their acceptance, they also get welcomed to the school with a video.
This year’s acceptance video for the upper school had a bit of twist. The school actually wanted to get students involved in coming up with and planning the acceptance video for their future classmates. As a former teacher, I welcomed the opportunity to work with the students to help them see their ideas come to life.
The students and I met virtually to brainstorm ideas and then in person one day. They came up with some really great ideas and a strong concept. Next was putting them into action. They helped organize their peers to be available to record voiceovers and learned first-hand all of the work that goes into planning and executing a video like this. Luckily, we also had a lot of footage of school life at Friends Select to draw on from previous projects.
You can watch the video that came out of this process. It was a really cool experience to see young minds being creative and school leaders trusting their students to help out in a project like this.
