In the Heights at Bristol Riverside Theatre
Before Lin Manuel Miranda created Hamilton, he made his name on Broadway with a musical about the largely Latino Washington Heights neighborhood in New York City. In the Heights was a smash hit and was eventually made into a feature film. Now, you can see the production locally as Bristol Riverside Theatre showcases the musical this Spring.
In the Heights features fast-moving lyrics set to pulsing Latin beats, bringing to life the intertwined stories of a vibrant immigrant community. The cast is huge, filling the stage with constant music and dancing.
In addition to the trailer above, here are two scenes from the show. They might just want to make you get tickets!
Filming promotional videos for In the Heights presented a few challenges due to sheer amount of the energy on stage, and as the cast even sang and danced their way around the house. Capturing that movement throughout dramatic lighting changes was vital to giving potential ticket buyers a glimpse into what they will see if they go.
Miranda began work for In the Heights when he was a student at Wesleyan University. He was enamored with the hugely popular show, Rent, and wanted to create a Latino version of the beloved musical. The seeds he planted as a college student grew into a robust career for Miranda.
Miranda has won Tonys, Grammys, a Pulitzer Prize, and was even named a MacArthur Genius. Who knows where his talent will lead him next?
But for now, if you want to see how it all started, check out Bristol Riverside Theatre’s production of In the Heights. Tickets are selling strong, so don’t wait to get yours if you want to go. In the Heights runs through April 27.
