Proposed Comcast Skyscraper

Over the last eight months I’ve done a few shoots for Foster + Partners, an architecture firm in the U.K. The project was top secret, and I was not allowed to tell anyone about what I was working on. In fact, I knew little about the project myself — only that there were plans for a new building at 18th and Arch, just across from the Comcast Center. I knew the photos I was shooting were for Foster + Partners’ renderings of the new building, but I didn’t know what the building was for or when construction would begin. At the end of November, Foster + Partners asked me to shoot the site from one last location — the Spring Garden Street Bridge at dusk. It was a cold and windy day, but the sky remained clear and crisp. Here’s one shot from that day:

Today, the news came out about the new “Comcast Innovation and Technology Center,” which included an artist’s rendering of the new building using one of my photos from that shoot. As this story from Philly.com explains, construction on the new Comcast skyscraper will begin this summer  between 18th and 19th on Arch Street. It will be the tallest skyscraper in Philadelphia at 1,121 feet.
